Siam vs Sumatra vs Frankincense — What Buyers Need to Know
Siam Benzoin (Styrax tonkinensis, Thailand/Laos origin) presents as golden crystalline tears with a distinctive pure vanilla-sweet fragrance. It is the premium grade — preferred by high-end perfumers, European fragrance houses, and luxury Bakhoor blenders. It commands a higher price and its quality is immediately detectable by any experienced buyer.
Sumatra Benzoin (Styrax benzoin, Indonesian origin), light amber brown in color, with notes of cinnamon and vanilla. Commercial applications: cosmetic fixative, pharmaceutical benzoin tincture (USP/BP), incense stick binder, soap perfumery. Most of the benzoin used in everyday fragrance and personal care formulation is Sumatra grade.

From Resin Harvest to Export Container — Our Process
Aromatic resin quality degrades with poor storage, incorrect moisture management, and variety mixing. Our process is built to prevent all three.
1. Verified Source Procurement
Raw resins are sourced from verified origin suppliers — Siam Benzoin from Thailand/Laos, Sumatra Benzoin from Indonesia, Frankincense from Boswellia-growing regions, Guggul from South Asian tapping operations. We do not accept mixed-variety batches without declaration, and we do not blend inferior grades with premium grades. Origin and variety verification is the first quality gate.
2. Moisture Assessment & Drying
Incoming resin undergoes moisture measurements before acceptance. High moisture content resin clumps, storage increases degradation and burns poorly in Bakhoor. Whereas Gentle low-temperature drying brings moisture to export-safe levels (≤12% raw tears, ≤8% flake), without adversely affecting the aromatic profile that characterizes the volatile compounds of fragrance.
3. Sorting, Cleaning & Grading
Manual and mechanical sorting removes bark fragments, soil, and off-grade material. For flakes and powder grades, resin is crushed or milled to particle size specified by the customer. Output purity: ≤2% foreign matter for raw tears, ≤0.5% for processed flake. At this point, the bakhoor types are blended together with premium oils, wooden powder and botanical ingredients in strictly controlled temperatures.
4. Pre-Shipment Quality Testing
For each batch, samples are analyzed for: Moisture content; Foreign matter (%); Aroma profile (Sensory evaluation against grade standard); Heavy metals (Pb, As, Cd, Hg); Pesticide residues; Microbial safety (Salmonella, E.coli, TPC). Certificate of Analysis for each batch.
5. Packing & Documentation
